Scripture
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.

Thoughts for the Day
Sometimes faith grows by looking backward.
Not backward toward our failures or regrets—but toward God's faithfulness.
The writer of Lamentations was surrounded by circumstances that could have produced despair. Yet something changed when he deliberately remembered what he knew about God:
“This I call to mind and therefore I have hope.”
He remembered God's love.
He remembered God's compassion.
He remembered God's faithfulness.
And remembering produced hope.
The Facing Fear, Finding Faith study points to God's mercies being new every morning as an important truth when fear makes the future seem dark.
Fear says, “Look at everything that could happen.”
Faith responds, “Look at everything God has already done.”
Remembering yesterday's faithfulness can give us courage to trust God with tomorrow.
Consider This . . .
Think about a difficult season you've already walked through.
Was there a time when you didn't know what you were going to do—but God provided?
A time when you felt alone—but God sustained you?
A prayer He answered?
A door He opened?
A person He sent at exactly the right time?
Write down two or three examples of God's faithfulness in your life.
Then when fear whispers, “What are you going to do?”, let your memories answer:
“The God who was faithful then will still be faithful now.”
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for Your faithfulness throughout my life. When fear makes me forget, remind me of the ways You have carried me, provided for me, and stayed with me. Your compassion is new every morning. Help me trust Your faithfulness again today. In Jesus' name . . .
