An Explosion of Love - Love Worth Finding - June 1
June 1, 2025 – An Explosion of Love
1 John 3:16-18
Sermon: 2316 Bright Lights in Dark World, Part 2
Pray Over This
“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:16-18
Ponder This
The Church believes in the permanence of marriage. But there are many whose homes have been broken by divorce. What do we do with that? Do we turn them away? No! In the name of Jesus, we open our arms and say, “You’re welcome here,” and share Christ’s love and hope.
We’re against pornography. It’s terrible. It is antithetical to true love, but so many today struggle with it. How do we interact with these people? Do we step on them? Or do we offer help to them and extend to them the grace of Christ? We believe same-sex relationships are contrary to the Word of God, but what do we do to those who believe differently? Do we criticize them, put them down? Or do we reach out a loving hand to lift up and give help?
The Church needs to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ. If we would be bright lights in a dark world, we need to be known not merely for what we’re against, but for what we’re for. What we need is an explosion of random acts of love that display the love of Jesus Christ.
- Who are the people most difficult for you to love? What are some ways you can show Christ’s love to these people?
- When has someone’s love and care made a difference in your life? How did it point you to Christ’s love?
Practice This
Show love to someone it is difficult to love and commit to pray for him or her regularly.
