Revelation 22:6-7
Sermon: 1725 How You Can Be Certain the Bible Is the Word of God, Part 1

Pray Over This

“Then he said to me, ‘These words are faithful and true.’ And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place. ‘Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.’”
Revelation 22:6-7

Ponder This

Many people have different reasons for dismissing the Bible. Some despise it. Others don't despise it; they just deny it. Others distort it. The Bible is put in their hands, but they twist it to their own destruction. Then there are those who dissect it. They come to the Bible with their measuring rods, with their scalpels, with their test tubes, and they treat the Bible more like a math book than a love story. They’re ever learning, but they can never come to the knowledge of the truth. And there are those who disregard it. They say it's not relevant or important.

As terrible as all of those are, the greatest enemy of the Word of God is found in churches on Sunday morning. These individuals say they believe the Bible. They even give lip service to the fact that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, and authentic Word of God. But they don’t study it. They don’t know it. They don’t live by it. They don’t assimilate it. They don’t stand on it. There is dust on the Bible and drought in the heart. God’s Word is for you and is relevant today for the problems and joys of life you are facing right now.

  • How do you spend time in God’s Word? How does it shape the way you live?
  • What is challenging about reading and applying God’s Word daily?

Practice This

Consider this method as you read Scripture: pray over it (ask God to speak to you through His Word), ponder it (meditate on what you’ve read in a focused way), put it in writing (journal about what God’s teaching you), practice it (apply it intentionally), proclaim it (share what you’ve learned with others).
