The Temptation to Fall Up - Love Worth Finding - October 15
October 15, 2025 – The Temptation to Fall Up
Sermon: 1883 The Coming Kingdom of Christ, Part 1
Pray Over This
“Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”
Ponder This
The devil is not against religion; he uses religion. The temptation in the garden was not for Adam and Eve to fall down; it was to “fall up.” He said, “You can be like God.” Satan has always wanted to be like God. It sounds good, but the ambition was to be like God apart from Him, essentially to be one’s own God.
Satan does not want casualties. He wants converts. Satan wants worship. When we look to ourselves for the answers, when we insist on our own way, we amplify our ego and turn away from God. The enemy seeks to sound smooth. He tempts us to follow our sense of logic and to place ourselves at the center of our own worlds instead of worshiping God for who He is. We cannot be like God without God; we need Him.
- What are some ways you have tried to be like God apart from Him? What happened?
- What are some lies the enemy has told you? How have you sought to combat those lies?
