So he expected it to bring forth good grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes. (Isaiah 5:2b)
This farmer comes out after all of this work he has done to savor the delightful succulence of his grapes. Unfortunately, he discovers that despite all of the money, time, and energy he’s expended, he hasn’t grown sweet grapes. Instead, wild brier vines growing on the side of the road have overtaken his field and produced bitter-tasting grapes. Similarly, God has given you the energy, mind, and insight to be productive. When He comes and looks at your life, does He find sweet, fruitful, productive, mature grapes, or does He walk away dissatisfied because all you’ve produced are sour grapes?
In Living in the In-Between Times, Pastor Ralph Douglas West brings the story of the Old Testament prophet Samuel to life, showing you how God speaks in your “in betweens” and what it looks like to live faithfully in these seasons of waiting and wondering.
