Child of God

Today's reading: Galatians 4:1-7 (NLT)

One of the things I do quite frequently as I'm reading my Bible is look at the passage I'm studying in one or more other versions, especially when the passage is more complex (wording or doctrinally) or dealing with an area or item I'm not very familiar with, or when I want to double-check the conclusions I've drawn.

That being the case, today I decided to read Galatians 4:1-7 using the New Living Translation (or NLT), which is a version I turn to often. The wording and descriptions were easy to understand, and this double version reading made the experience of taking in this passage even richer. The way verses 5 and 7 read really resonated with me.

"God sent [Jesus] to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. . . Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir."

This passage immediately brought to mind the beautiful worship song "Who You Say I Am" by Hillsong Worship. The two taken together were a wonderful reminder that I am a loved and cherished CHILD of the God of the universe. They also served to remind me of how quickly I can lose sight of this amazing reality when I'm not intentional about spending time with God through His Word and prayer.

How often do you truly think about being a child of God and what that means? How did Galatians 4:1-7 encourage, impact and/or give you confidence today? How would you explain being God's child and its benefits to someone else? Tami
