Made Right through Christ

Today's reading: Galatians 2:15-21

The message that we can never do enough good things to "work" our way into being made right with God came across clearly in the final verses of Galatians 2. This passage spoke loudly to me today because the women's Bible study group I'm in right now just finished reading through and discussing the many laws God gave to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. We've spent the past three weeks working through these portions of scripture and have had numerous conversations about how thankful we are for Jesus and how His dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin changed everything. Thus Paul's statement in verse 16:

"Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified."

As I talk with people who aren't yet Christ followers about salvation, more often than not they tell me that things are fine with them because they are a "good" person. The Bible is clear that faith in Christ is the only way to be made right with God. How might you use this passage to talk to someone about God's love and their need to believe and place their faith in Christ? Tami
