Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 10:4

Solomon's advice in Ecclesiastes 10:4 is dead on. Our tendency is to immediately react when a bad situation arises, but in most situations, we serve ourselves best by pausing, assessing and seeking God's guidance before we take action to respond. As I contemplated Solomon's words, it brought to mind a number of similarly themed verses from Proverbs. Verses instructing us to be slow to get angry (see Proverbs 14:7; 14:29; 15:18; 19:11; 25:15), verses telling us how it's good for us to guard our thoughts and words (see Proverbs 10:19; 21:23) and that the words we do speak should be thought through and tempered (Proverbs 12:18; 17:27; 29:20).

How have you benefited from responding calmly in a stressful or bad situation? How does praying and reading your Bible help you stand strong and calm when you're in the middle of uncertain circumstances? Tami
