Gloss No More

today's reading.
Psalms 51    Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions...

the blog.
David's been confronted by Nathan the prophet about his sin with Bathsheba, and out of this confrontation, David writes Psalm 51. What is especially moving to me about this psalm is how David doesn't gloss over his sin saying something like "Hey, God. Yeah, I sinned . . . And, by the way, will you please forgive me?" Just the opposite. What we see is David at rock bottom, facing his sin head on earnestly seeking God and asking Him for forgiveness.

Verses 16 and 17 spoke loudly to me "You will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."

So would you take a few minutes today and think about what it means to have a contrite or repentant heart before God? Then tell God how much you love Him and how grateful you are for His forgiveness. Tami W.
