The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

--John 10:10

Whether you realize it or not, there is a spiritual battle being waged all around you right now. And the person waging the war… your enemy as a follower of Jesus Christ… is Satan himself. As it says in today’s verse, the devil’s only intent is to kill and destroy you!

Now, the good news is that the war was won when Jesus died for your sins and mine and rose again. When He did this, Satan was defeated. But that doesn’t stop Satan from trying to defeat you and me in our day-to-day lives.

Even today, you might admit that you’re tired of fighting the fight of faith. Maybe you feel like you’re about to throw in the towel.

If so, I have a word of encouragement for you today: Be patient. I remember singing that song to my children so long ago. “Have patience, have patience, don’t be in such a hurry. When you get impatient, you only start to worry….”

As you face the walls of discouragement, the walls of illness, the walls of financial insecurity, the walls of relational frustration, be patient. Keep doing what God is telling you to do.

Today lean on God to help you take that next step of faith. Then lean on Him to take the next step of faith. Keep marching patiently forward… and eventually… as you persevere and patiently pursue God’s will for your life… He will see you through to a real victory.

The war was won when Jesus died for your sins and rose again. But that doesn’t stop Satan from trying to defeat you in your day-to-day life.
