Dealing with the small anxieties of life
September 15, 2011
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Dr. Howard Hendricks, a professor at Dallas Seminary, was once entertaining a rather esteemed colleague from another seminary and he took him home for dinner. As they sat down around the table, Dr. Hendricks asked his little four-year-old boy to give thanks.
And with this esteemed religious leader at the end of the table, the little boy prayed, “Dear Jesus, please be with the fence in the backyard. Amen.”
Well, the visitor was rather startled by that simple prayer. So Dr. Hendricks thought he’d better explain. He said to the man, “You see, sir, on the other side of the fence is the biggest, baddest, meanest dog you’ve ever seen. And every day my little boy prays, ‘Jesus, be with that fence!’”
Now, is God interested in backyards? Sure! Is God interested in fences? Of course! Is God interested that little boy’s fear? Absolutely!
So whatever is making you anxious, whether it’s finances, family issues, health problems, or the dog on the other side of the fence, turn it over to God and allow Him to calm your spirit!
NO ANXIETY IS TOO SMALL FOR GOD TO HANDLE. SO PRAY AND TURN YOUR FEARS OVER TO HIM, KNOWING THAT HE LOVES YOU, AND ALLOW HIM TO CALM YOUR SPIRIT!
