Times of Seclusion
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. - Galatians 1:15-17
When Paul became saved, the first thing he did was to spend three years in the Arabian desert, waiting on the Lord to train him and get him ready for what God intended to do in his life:Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days (Galatians 1:18). Paul was enriched with the knowledge of God before setting out to do his ministry. He spent time in seclusion as He studied God’s Word.
Think about how quick people want to enter ministry but they are not fully prepared. If we have not taken the time to enrich our lives with the knowledge of God’s Word, how can we effectively share His truth with others? We should be able to give to others the full counsel of God; not just only our testimony, the amazing things God has done in our lives.
I can remember when I first was saved; it took me four and half years to really get rooted and grounded in God’s Word. I attended Calvary Chapel and listen to Chuck Smith. I needed to know God and His Word intimately. Then I could understand the call God had for my life. I have learned in ministry that it takes a lot of labor and discipline to study God’s Word. As we learn the Word of God our knowledge of Him expands. Daily being in God’s Word causes us to be built up and we grow spiritually.
Remember, the perfect will of God is for you to know God intimately. You will know Christ and then understand what He wants you to do. Once you know Him intimately, then it is natural to serve Him.
To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
