Time with God - July 18, 2012
Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
Search carefully!
In those days ten silver coins were strung together and worn around the head by an engaged woman. It was like an engagement ring.
It’s obvious, Jesus says, if a woman loses one of the coins on that precious headpiece, she searches very carefully until she finds it.
Remember that in verse 2 the Pharisees were grumbling at how much time Jesus was spending with sinful people. Jesus uses this story to say, “Isn’t it obvious? I am searching carefully so that these people can be found!”
He wasn’t just blasting out the message of truth; He was speaking His message into a relational context. He was being careful about how to connect His message with the people He loved and was trying to reach. God wants you to have the same approach. Think carefully about how to help the people in your life to see God, and what He has done for them, in the right way.
