Time with God - November 9

Monday 9th November

Hebrews 7:25

“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”

In this chapter of Hebrews, the writer is explaining Jesus’ death on the cross in terms the Jews would understand. In Israel, the High Priest would sacrifice an animal to atone first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. By offering this sacrifice, the priest was interceding for the people.

In this word picture, Jesus is both the High Priest and the sacrifice that was offered. This verse says that because of this reality, our salvation is forever secure. Jesus doesn’t save us until the next time we sin a really big sin; He “saves to the uttermost those who draw near to God.”

Why? Because he is always applying his sacrifice to our lives—“he always lives to make intercession” for us!

Jesus wants to reassure you today that if you have truly put your trust in him for the forgiveness of your sins, then the only way that you could lose your right standing with God the Father would be for God to decide that Jesus’ supreme sacrifice was not enough to pay for your sins. What do you think are the chances of that?

Zero.
