Stand on Truth
Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV®)
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
Now, I grew up in a barn in Tennessee, so I may not always be at the head of the line. But if there is something that God hates, my idea is this: I don’t want to stand before Him with three or four of those things in my pocket. In this list of things “the Lord hates,” one of them is specifically a lying tongue, but the majority of them have to do with deception, falsehood, and manipulation. Even when those around you don’t hold the truth in high regard, I want to encourage you as a Christ-follower to be a person who values the truth—in the words you speak, in the way you do business, in the way you conduct yourself in your home and as you go about your day. If you will make that conscious, daily decision, God will make His Truth available to you—and meditating on that will help you avoid doing the other things on the list!
Heavenly Father, You are Truth and all truth comes from You. As the Psalmist said, all Your words are true, and all Your righteous laws are eternal. Help me to remember Your Truth and walk in it today, Lord, that I might live in Your freedom and fulfill Your purposes for me in the earth. It’s in Jesus’ name that I pray, amen.
