Sealed with the Spirit

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,” (Ephesians 1:13, NASB95)

To be sealed in God with the Holy Spirit is no small matter. We can begin to picture the benefits of sealing when we consider the 144,000 Jews who are sealed through the day of Tribulation and thus will be able to endure to the end, despite the flood of persecution and wrath of the Tribulation days. Revelation 12:14 says that Israel will be taken to “her place” where she will be protected and nourished. The location of this place is secret, and the sealing of God keeps the 144,000 protected fully.  Psalm 91 speaks of those who dwell in the “secret place of the Almighty.” This is not some spiritual highpoint, but a literal place, and those who dwell there will be delivered from deadly pestilence. They are sealed!

While the 144,000 are sealed in a physical sense, the believer is sealed in a spiritual sense. When we come to faith in Jesus Christ, “nothing can separate us from the love of God.” The sealing of the Spirit is why I believe in “once saved, always saved.” If I am sealed in the Spirit, what spiritual harm can come my way?

In His Grace;
