TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

"Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." - Matthew 6:6

SOMETHING TO PONDER

My daughter said something before Christmas this year: “Mom, you’ve had the same clothes for years.” I found it a bit funny. She was right.

I looked at my closet the other day and smiled when I realized something. My wardrobe is smaller than anyone else's in our home. A few pairs of jeans, leggings, some basic shirts or sweatshirts, and a few dresses I pull out for special occasions. Oh, and a couple of sweaters and jackets for speaking at events or retreats. Somewhere along the way, I followed in my mother’s footsteps. She always had the smallest wardrobe in my family growing up, too.

It’s just one of the small ways I make sure my kids have what they need before I do. When they are all growing, it only seems right for them to have new clothes that fit. As parents, we don’t brag about this, even though I know many moms and dads who do this. We simply want our children to have the best we can offer them.

Maybe for you, it’s not about fewer clothes in the closet; you’ve wanted to give a little more. So you make your coffee at home instead of buying it out, which lets you give $10 more in your offering each week or donate it to your favorite charity. Or perhaps you spend many moments praying for someone who’ll never know your heart for their needs. I have a friend who completely skipped her vacation to help a family in need.

These kinds of gifts don’t come with applause. Most of the time, nobody knows but you and God.

Can I remind you that our Father sees what is done in secret? That’s what Matthew 6:6 tells us. He sees those little sacrifices and quiet obedience. He never misses the moments you choose His way when nobody’s watching.

The world celebrates the visible stuff with big gestures and shiny awards. And there’s nothing wrong with that to some degree.

But maybe tonight you just needed the reminder that God sees differently. He sees your heart in the hidden choices. His eye never misses faithfulness in unseen moments. He values it.

Your faithfulness might feel unnoticed. On occasion, you might wonder if anyone cares about the small, daily sacrifices you make. God does. He always has. What you do in secret, inside those quiet moments without recognition, matters deeply to Him. You are seen, and you are loved.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
Thank you for seeing what no one else sees. Thank you for noticing every small choice to give instead of receive. Help me remember I’m not serving for recognition or applause. I’m serving You. And you see it all. Give me the strength to keep choosing Your way, even when no one’s watching. Remind me that my faithfulness matters to You, no matter how small or unseen it feels. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. A Small Sacrifice You've Made
What is something you gave up recently that nobody noticed? Maybe you said no to something you wanted so someone else could have what they needed. Or you chose the harder right thing when the easier wrong thing was available. That choice mattered. God saw it, even if no one else did.

2. The Unseen Faithfulness
Think about a few of the daily disciplines you keep for which there is no applause. The prayers you pray in the quiet or the kindness you show when you're exhausted. It might feel like it doesn't count because it's hidden. But God doesn't measure faithfulness by who sees it. He measures it by your heart.

3. What God Values
What are the things the world celebrates versus what you know matters to God? The world notices the big and impressive. But think about what moved Jesus when He walked this earth. He noticed the widow's small offering. He saw the woman washing His feet with her tears. He valued what others overlooked. That's still true today. What you do in secret, God sees and values.

As you close your eyes tonight, remember this: God sees. He knows. He values the small, hidden sacrifices you make in His name.
