When most families flip on the television to find a good show, hundreds of channels flood the screen. From local news sources to kids' shows or romance movies, the options are endless. In Afghanistan, however, the ability to watch Christian shows and films isn’t just risky for believers, but something that directly goes against taliban restrictions.
According to Christian Today, Mozhda TV is the first Afghan Christian television channel to air exclusively dedicated to Christians. Recently launched on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, the satellite channel includes programming in the country’s languages and is the first to go live as an Afghan Christian channel.
After decades of prayer and work towards this mission, Shoaib Ebadi, executive director of the Afghanistan Bible Society, explained that this launch is the first time in history that “the first Afghan Christian satellite channel will start its broadcasting to Afghanistan and around the world.”
Just minutes after the channel went on air, Masoud Ghorbani, Mozhda TV’s executive director, preached a small sermon from Mark 6:34, describing how people without Jesus were lost like sheep without a shepherd. Ghorbani then asked the audience to see Afghanistan through Jesus’ eyes.
After years of suffering and persecution, Ghorbani believes that the worst pain of this country isn’t just the torture, but knowing that most in the land don’t know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Because of this channel, he declares that millions of Afghans will now have the opportunity to hear the Gospel.
“Jesus Christ is the good shepherd of Afghanistan,” he said, citing John 10:11.
Instead of being afraid of those who oppose the Christian faith, Ghorbani explained that “Almost everyone has a television and a satellite dish at home. The Taliban control the country, but they cannot control the satellites. We don’t know who is watching our program for the first time right now, perhaps even the Taliban. We need to pray for them.”
