Islamists on the Verge of Victory in Egypt

Egypt this week will elect a new president. Preliminary results from ballots cast by Egyptians living abroad put the Islamist candidate in the lead.
As the region's largest Arab country, Egypt has been a mostly stable counterbalance to the turmoil that has raged throughout the Middle East. But since the toppling of Hosni Mubarak, with the support of the United States, the Muslim Brotherhood and other fundamentalist groups have competed for power and now it appears one of those parties may be on the verge of victory.
It doesn't take an expert to conclude what this will mean. Already Christians are being persecuted on a scale not seen in recent years. The relative freedom of women will be curtailed. Islam will be the law.
The Obama and Bush administrations have tried to portray Islam as a religion of peace. Throughout the Middle East, the evidence is just the opposite. When will the U.S. government move from denial to preparation for the war the Islamists have been waging for years against all things Christian, Jewish and Western?
