Candace Cameron Bure Says Son’s Scripture-Filled Talk Helped Save Her Marriage

Actress and outspoken Christian Candace Cameron Bure recently shared how her son, Levi, played a pivotal role in saving her marriage to her husband, Valeri, amid a "rough season" in 2020 by delivering a "45-minute sermon on marriage." During the latest episode of her podcast, released on Tuesday, July 8, Bure, who had Pastor Jonathan Pokluda and her son, Lev Bure, alongside as her guests, Church Leaders reports.
"I want to brag on Lev for a little bit," the Full House star said.
She admitted that in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her husband had a "really, really rough season in our marriage," adding "And we were like, 'I don't know if… we're gonna make it through.'"
Being aware of their struggle, the Bure's children sat them both down to talk.
"Lev was the one leading the charge," recalled Bure. "Val and I sat down, and Lev preached like a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us. Just had his Bible open on the couch and just, just talked about it."
"I'll never forget," said Bure, "because he said, 'You know, I know I haven't been married, and I'm just a young kid.'"
Remarking on his experience, Lev said, "And so it's probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don't need to be married to know what the Word of God says."
"Wow," said Pokluda.
"He was just such a calm voice that had so much wisdom behind it," said Bure, "and he looked us, you know, straight in the eye, and individually asked me, and then asked Val, 'You know, have you done everything you can?'"
Lev recalled asking his mom, "Is there one step of grace or just some bit more grace you could give Val?" Then, to his dad, "Is there any more grace you can give Mom? Is there one more act of kindness, one more gesture…ounce of kindness, goodness in you that you could give to try to reconcile?"
"We walked away from that," said Bure, "and, you know, Val and I were like… 'Huh, we raised some pretty good kids.' You know, it was so in our face, but that was the pivotal moment. It really changed for us after that talk."
"There was a lot more to it," she added, "but, you know, it's a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to have a talk and go, 'Are you being as mature as you can be?'"
"But like, let's get to the matter of fact: It's only going to happen through Jesus," he said, "and so that was all we could point them to."
Lev was then questioned by Pokluda if he was "nervous" about questioning his parents about their marriage.
"Not really," answered Lev. "I believe it originated from a place of love, and even when my siblings and I discussed it, we said, 'Man, we want our parents to be together more than anything.'"
Shortly after, Lev said, "You got me emotional over here."
"I know," said Pokluda. "I was like, that's going to be the first podcast I cry in."
