'David' Reaches $70 Million at the Box Office

The animated biblical movie David earned another $20 million at the box office this past week, bringing its total gross to about $70 million.

David, which released in theaters last month, has grossed more than several major Hollywood films, including the remake of Running Man, the horror sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and the Stephen King remake, The Long Walk, Protestia reported.

Although the film has grossed less than $300k in international markets, it is scheduled to release in 44 markets over the next year.

David, which follows the story of the biblical character, is directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Daws, stars well-known Christian artists Phil Wickham as ‘David’ and Lauren Daigle as ‘Rebecca.’

“From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage–culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom,” the film’s synopsis states.

At the present time, David has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 71% and an audience score of 98%, based on more than 1000 reviews. Overall,

“Families are searching for values-driven films that honor hope, and our Angel Guild members embraced DAVID from the very beginning. We greatly value the support of our outstanding exhibitors and look forward to a robust, extended theatrical run as this popular animated musical continues to warm hearts and inspire families this Christmas,” Brandon Purdie, Angel’s head of theatrical productions, said in a press release.

The movie, produced by Angel Studios, is a follow-up to the miniseries Young David, which looks at a younger David prior to his battle against the Philistine Goliath and appointment as the future king of Israel.
