Greg Laurie Says Prayer Carried Him through His Hardest Health Battle Yet

Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, shared that his recent hip surgery was "100% successful" and that he is now "healing up" and "walking." Laurie, who founded the Harvest Crusade, shared the news on social media on Sunday, which included a video clip of him recounting his experience. "A lot of people talk down on prayer these days, but I've never been more thankful for it. While I was recovering from hip surgery, so many of you were praying for me—and I want you to know those prayers were answered! The surgery was 100% successful. God is good!" the pastor wrote on X.

In the clip, he shared that his surgery was his first in 72 years.

"And in a time where some are mocking prayer or looking at prayer with disdain," Laurie said, seemingly alluding to the disdain some people had on prayer following last week's shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, "how important it is for us as Christians to rejoice in the fact that we follow a God in heaven who loves us and hears our prayers. So thank you for your prayers, and continue to pray as I make a full recovery. God bless."

He shared that he had undergone hip surgery on Aug. 19, which he described as "long overdue."

"I've been in pain for quite a while and kept putting it off. Now I'm healing up, and I'm walking. I'm not using a cane or a walker," said Laurie. "And I just want to thank all the people that took the time to pray for me. I really, really appreciate that."

Laurie previously shared that the pain was impacting his right leg and joked about how he had come to enjoy using a caneChurch Leaders reported. He also shared that his wife, Cathe, and their son, Jonathan, would post updates regarding the result of the surgery.

He shared an Aug. 20 update that "from the moment I walked into the hospital, God surrounded me with believers—the receptionist, the nurses, even my doctor, who asked me to pray for him before his surgeries that day."

"My anesthesiologist was also a Christian," he said. "What a blessing!"

On Aug. 24, Laurie told his followers that his recovery was going well, writing, "Thanks to God's healing touch and your prayers," he said, "I'm up and walking a bit and getting stronger every day."

At the time, however, he said that his "good friend, Pastor James Merritt," would be preaching in his place that day because he was "not quite ready to head back out and preach just yet."

The California pastor shared on Aug. 30 that his "recovery from hip surgery is going really well—I'm actually ahead of schedule, thank God!"
