John Mark McMillan Announces Final Tour after 20 Years of Ministry through Music

Christian music artist John Mark McMillan announced that his fall tour will be his last following a 20-year music career.
“I have some sad news,” he announced on Instagram, “This will be my last tour.”
“It’s time for me to enter a new phase in my life where music is no longer my full-time endeavor,” McMillan explained. “I want to write books, pour into a new generation of creatives, and focus on local projects.”
McMillan cited the stress of the music industry and the lack of a sustainable model for making money from music as factors in his decision, Church Leaders reported.
“Plus, I know what you’re thinking: yes, the stress related to the economy and the current state of the music industry is a significant factor,” the artist admitted. “Money has never been my primary motivation, but the financial burden of living in a world where music has little or no monetary value has made it hard to find a sustainable model.”
At the same time, however, McMillan stressed he is “not looking for sympathy,” even though he understands the stress of life everyone faces on a daily basis. Nevertheless, he feels that he has the “chance to step away from some of the stress.”
McMillan continued, “I believe it’s time to do that. At least for a while.”
“Music will always be a part of my life,” he asserted. “I’ll participate in a few special events next year and may join friends on shows. But after this Fall tour, my touring days are finished, at least for the foreseeable future.”
McMillan also thanked his fans for their ongoing support, especially as he gears up for his final tour.
“It’s been a beautiful 20 years, and you guys have been the best part,” said McMillan. “If you can make it to one of these final shows, I’d love to see you. Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement.”
McMillan’s post was met with overwhelming support from fans and Christian artists alike.
“Honored to be on the last ride with you, man. Let’s rip it up.,” wrote Citizens, who are also touring with McMillan this fall.
Kings Kaleidoscope simply commented, “❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Fellow Christian artist Matt Kearney shared his appreciation for McMillan, including the opportunity to play together on stage.
“Love you brother. You’re a special person with special ideas about music and the creator of it all. honored to have shared the stage with you,” he said.
In 2002, McMillan released his first album, “Hope Anthology, Volume 1,” followed by “The Song Inside: The Sounds of Breaking Down” in 2005. His song “How He Loves,” which was on his second album, was covered by fellow Christian artist David Crowder and was nominated for a Dove Award in 2010.
He also released several independent albums and formed Lionhawk Records, alongside Josh Lujan Loveless, in 2014. His next album, Borderland, was the first to be released under that label following a successful Kickstarter campaign that went on to make the No. 4 spot on Billboard’s Top Christian Album chart.
McMillan is married to his wife, Sarah, who has worked alongside him, and they have three children together.
