Las Vegas Gunman Targets NFL Building, Kills Four before Taking Own Life

A lone gunman fatally shot four people, including an off-duty police officer, before turning the gun on himself in Midtown Manhattan on Monday afternoon after traveling cross-country from Las Vegas. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, entered 345 Park Avenue, a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan housing the NFL and Blackstone, wearing body armor and armed with an M4-style rifle. At approximately 6:28 p.m., he opened fire in the lobby, killing three people before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor and killing a fourth person before ultimately killing himself.
Among the four victims was slain police officer Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, who fathered two sons with his wife, who is currently pregnant with a third.
“He made the ultimate sacrifice, shot in cold blood wearing a uniform that stood for the promise he made to this city,” New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a news conference on Monday, The New York Times reported.
Wesley LePatner — an executive at investment firm Blackstone, who was also one of the building’s tenants — was also killed.
Four people were killed and a fifth was injured in a mass shooting at a Midtown Manhattan office building on Monday. Among the victims was a wife and mom of two.

She added that the names of the other victims were not made public because their families had not been informed.
A fifth person, an NFL employee, was hospitalized with injuries from the mass shooting, which is considered to be the deadliest gun attack in NYC in 25 years. The incident also comes months after 26-year-old Luigi Mangione fatally shot United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown last December. His manifesto revealed that he was upset at the health care industry over inequities and corruption.
A source told CNN that a suicide note found in Tamura’s pocket revealed his grievances with the NFL and that he suffered from CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a disease linked to head trauma.
He had driven cross‑country in a BMW from Vegas through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and New Jersey before entering Manhattan around 4:24 p.m. on July 28.
Tisch noted that police found that the Tamura had a gun license from Las Vegas and that police found a rifle case, a loaded revolver, ammunition, a backpack, and medication. Authorities also said the gunman had a “documented mental health history.”
Tamura, a Las Vegas resident originally from Hawaii, played varsity school football when he attended Granada Hills Charter Highlanders in Los Angeles, California, and Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita.
Walter Roby, who coached Tamura during his senior year at Granada Hills Charter, was shocked at the news and did not see any signs of him that were troubling.
“Shane was very quiet. He was a quiet, hard worker. He was coachable. So whatever we asked him to do, he was doing it. He led by, you know, his actions on the field. He was our, you know, one of my top offensive players at the time,” Roby said. “Could I have done more? Could I help the kid? Could I have reached out to him, or could you reach out to me? It’s just a lot of things I’m trying to process right now.”

Prayer for Midtown
Father, I pray for comfort and peace over the families of the victims at this time, as well as for healing for the NFL employee. Incidents like this remind us that we live in a fallen world and that this world needs Jesus Christ. May we be reminded of that today, and that Your church go forth and preach the Gospel. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
