Matt MacArthur Takes Leadership at Grace to You to Continue His Father’s Legacy of Faithful Teaching

Matt MacArthur, the firstborn son of late pastor John MacArthur, has been appointed as President of his father's teaching ministry, Grace to You.
"I've had the great privilege of serving alongside my dad for many years and of sitting on the Grace to You board for more than 25 years. Like so many of you, I've loved this ministry all my life. And while these days are marked by both sorrow and joy, I want you to know that I am more committed than ever to the work God entrusted to us through my father," MacArthur said in an announcement posted on the ministry's website.
MacArthur previously served as a longtime Grace to You board member and is vice chairman of the John MacArthur Charitable Trust, Church Leaders reported. He's also an alumnus and board member of The Master's University, which his father founded.
He asserted that his father's ministry will remain unchanged in its mission to teach God's Word.
"Grace to You exists to unleash God's truth, one verse at a time—a mission anchored in our steadfast commitment to Scripture and carried forward by my father's faithful preaching of the Word for over 56 years. That mission will not change. We are not looking for an alternative voice or a different teacher. Our purpose remains clear: to preserve John MacArthur's teaching ministry and make it available to as many people as possible, worldwide, for generations to come."
He also shared that Grace to You can continue to produce new broadcasts for "decades to come" as the ministry's archive contains about 3,600 "distinct sermons," including hundreds of sermons that have yet to be released.
"John MacArthur pastored Grace Community Church for more than five decades, and for most of that time he prepared and preached two fresh sermons every week," MacArthur said. "There are about 3,600 distinct sermons in our archive. In other words, Grace to You can keep producing new broadcasts for decades to come. So we intend to keep doing precisely what we have always done, for as long as the Lord permits—and for as long as friends like you want to hear and support our ministry."
He also shared that at least 600 "essential sermons from the Grace to You archive" will be translated into as many languages as possible."
"With your ongoing support, we will continue that work until the entire world has access to this amazing body of teaching," MacArthur said.
MacArthur was among several speakers at his father's memorial service last month. There, he shared what his father's last words to him were before he passed away in July at the age of 86 after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
"His last words to me were: 'Son, be faithful.' He didn't say, 'Write a book.' He didn't say, 'Be the keynote speaker at a conference.' He said, 'Be faithful,'" MacArthur said.
"What a model," he added.
He also recalled his father citing from the apostle Paul from 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 when it came to the assurance of salvation in the face of death.
"O Death, where is your sting? I feel no sting. Grace has overpowered my sinful heart," MacArthur quoted his father saying. "What a gift. What a gift. Grace is the greatest power because it pushes sin away. It's all of grace. I am unworthy. I've lived to see my children's children, and I pray that you all will finish well."
