ESPN Host, Former Indianapolis Colt Pat McAfee is in the 'Middle of My Journey' and 'Loves the Thought of Jesus Christ'
Former NFL player and host of ESPN's "The Pat McAfee Show," Pat McAfee, revealed that he loves “the thought of Jesus Christ” and that he is currently in the “middle” of a spiritual journey.
Speaking with street evangelist Jordan Kreisle as part of his “Reel Evangelism” video series, Kriesle caught up with McAfee in July outside on the streets of New York City, following the ESPYs, ESPN's award show.
Their brief interaction began with Kriesle asking McAfee an all-important question: “Did you know Jesus loves you?” This simple, direct question led to a conversation between the two in which McAfee opened up about his background and familiarity with religion, as well as his current journey.
The retired, two-time Pro-Bowl punter mentioned that, while growing up, he was “a Chreaster," a term that means someone who only attends church on Christmas and Easter, The Christian Post reported.
“My dad went to Catholic school, so obviously we grew up Christmas, Easter, in that particular order,” McAfee said.
Despite not being fully committed to Christ, McAfee says he has “gotten more invested in the conversation of … there has to be a reason for everything” as his life has become more “lucky and fortunate.”
“I love the thought of Jesus Christ,” he added. “I love the thought of that being it, and I think, inevitably, I will land there because that’s kind of how I feel right now.”
“I’m in [the] middle of my journey right now," he added, agreeing with Kreisle that their meeting was “a divine moment.”
McAfee also says he would be interested in hosting a show “talking about finding my God” that discussed “all the different religions.”
Towards the end of their meeting, McAfee and Kreisle prayed together, specifically for McAfee’s daughter, after Kreisle believed that God told him he had a daughter and that “for some reason, we need to pray for her.”
Kreisle noted that the prayer for McAfee’s daughter was to show the former punter how much God’s crazy about you,” adding, “He’s trying to grab you, Pat. He’s trying to get a hold of you before … that day when you land on Jesus, He’s saying ‘land on me now because I am the answer.’”
“That’s awesome,” McAfee replied.
This is not the first time McAfee has had a faith-filled moment. During a broadcast of his show last year, McAfee unexpectedly paused his popular show and asked Browns quarterback Jameis Winston to pray.
