Prosperity Gospel Critic Justin Peters Becomes Senior Pastor at New Church Plant

Longtime Christian apologist and evangelist Justin Peters, known for speaking out against the prosperity gospel, will now be taking on the role of senior pastor of a new church plant.
“About five months ago, a small group of believers saw a need to plant a doctrinally sound church west of Billings, MT. Grace & Truth Community Church was born to meet this need. It is my honor to serve as pastor,” said Peters in his announcement on X on Monday.
Peter’s post included a link to the church website as well as a screenshot of the website, which included service times and the church’s address.
As reported by Protestia, Peters is currently the sole local elder along with eight “remote elders,” including Phil Johnson and Mike Riccardi of Grace Community Church, which was led by the late pastor John MacArthur from 1969 until his passing in July 2025.
“Believing that the Bible teaches a plurality of local elders (Acts 14:23; 20:17; Titus 1:5; 1 Peter 5:1-2), until that time arrives, we have qualified men who have offered to serve as remote elders. These men have been a source of wisdom and counsel in the months leading up to and time since our first meeting on December 28, 2025,” the church website states.
“Much as the Apostle Paul served as a source of wisdom, instruction, and accountability for multiple churches, though he was not present, these men will serve GTCC.”
Peters, who was born with cerebral palsy, holds a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is the founder of Justin Peters Ministries.
He has also been outspoken against the prosperity gospel and Word of faith movement, which he exposes in his Clouds Without Water series of lectures. In 2013, he was one of the featured speakers at the Strange Conference hosted by John MacArthur, which criticizes the aforementioned movements as well as continuationism, which is the theological position that argues in favor of spiritual gifts today.
