Rudy Giuliani Suffers Spinal Injury in Crash Days before Receiving Presidential Medal of Freedom

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering from a fractured vertebra and other injuries following a car crash in New Hampshire late Saturday evening. According to his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, he was driving while Giuliani was seated in the passenger seat of a rented Ford Bronco when their vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman.

State police said that troopers who witnessed the crash stated that both vehicles were "heavily damaged" after striking the highway median, CBN News reported. They added that Goodman and the 19-year-old suffered "non-life-threatening injuries" and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

At the present time, no charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.

Michael Ragusa, Giuliani's head of security, said that the 81-year-old former mayor was taken to a nearby trauma center and was being treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.

He also noted that Giuliani had assisted a domestic abuse victim prior to the crash and that he "sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously."

Ragusa also shot down rumors that the crash was a "target attack."

"This was not a targeted attack. We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani's privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories," he wrote in a follow-up post.

Giuliani's son, Andrew Giuliani, thanked those who supported his father at this time, writing "Your prayers mean the world."

Two days following the crash, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Giuliani, whom he described as the "greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot."

"Details as to time and place to follow," he added.

Giuliani, a longtime Trump ally, served as an adviser to Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign and later as his personal lawyer, The New York Post reported. Since 2020, the former mayor has faced a number of legal troubles as part of his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, including having criminal charges out of Georgia and Arizona, disbarment, and a $148 million defamation judgment.
