Senior Paramedic Shares Firsthand Account from Missile Strike in Beersheba

An Iranian ballistic missile struck a hospital in Southern Israel Friday, causing significant structural damage and injuring nearly 100 patients and staff. According to a hospital statement, the explosion collapsed the department floors, pharmacies, and laboratories and forced the suspension of most medical services.
Footage posted to social media showcases the structural damage left behind by the blast.
“Soroka, the only major medical center in Israel’s South, currently has just 350 of its 1,200 hospital beds operational. A heartbreaking reality to a community now left without essential healthcare,” the hospital stated on social media.
Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s medical system, stated in a press release on Friday that it was “only by the mercy of God” that there was “not a catastrophic loss of life.” Additionally, one of the hospital floors that was “severely impacted by the explosion” was literally evacuated a day before the incident.
“MAGEN DAVID ADOM forces arrived at the impact zone, where we found severe damage to multiple high-rise buildings amid chaos,” said paramedic Eyal Rot. “Near the buildings were injured civilians, panicked residents, and vehicles struck by shrapnel. All casualties were treated on site and quickly evacuated to hospitals.”
Professor Shlomi Codish, Director General, maintained that the hospital is still standing and that its values remain steadfast in the aftermath of the attack.
“Soroka never stops,” he said. “The missile that struck Soroka hit the heart of Israel’s southern healthcare system. The damage is significant, but our spirit is unbreakable. Despite the painful blow, the values that define Soroka—mission, dedication, professionalism, and humanity—are stronger than any missile. We will rise, rebuild, and continue to be a life-saving anchor in the South.”
The hospital also launched a fundraiser to buy medical equipment, including stretchers, ICU beds, hospital beds, ventilators, central monitor stations, and a special ground vehicle for the transport of patients safely.
