Today' Show Host Savannah Guthrie's Mother Reported Missing, Police Declare Home a Crime Scene

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing over the weekend.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department in Arizona, Nancy Guthrie’s family reported her missing on Sunday, around noon local time, after she was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night, ABC News reported.

Following an investigation into her home on Sunday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos noted during a Monday press briefing that "saw some things at the home that were concerning to us," and considered the location a crime scene.

"She did not leave on her own, we know that," Nanos said.

The sheriff also noted that Nancy Guthrie’s family described her as having some physical ailments and limited mobility, but does not have cognitive issues. Nanos warned that she is on medications that said if she doesn't take in 24 hours, "it could be fatal.”

He urged local residents during the briefing to examine their home security cameras.

"So we make a plea to anyone that knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us, call 911," Nanos said.

Sgt. David Stivers from the sheriff's department's homicide team, said during Monday’s press briefing, investigators found "circumstances on scene that we believe are suspicious in nature."

Authorities added that they have Nancy Guthrie’s cell phone and are assessing the home’s security cameras.

During Monday’s “Today” show, host Craig Melvin read a statement by Savannah Guthrie regarding her mother.

"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support," Melvin said on air. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom."

"We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900," the statement continued.

Meanwhile, an NBCUniversal spokesperson confirmed early on Monday that Nancy Guthrie is missing and said the family is "working closely with local law enforcement."

The FBI has also provided assistance in the situation.
