Trump Suggests Bringing Peace to Ukraine May Help Him Reach Heaven

President Donald Trump recently claimed during an "Fox & Friends" phone interview that ending the Ukrainian-Russian war would be one of the reasons he would enter Heaven. "I want to try and get to Heaven if possible," Trump said during the phone interview Tuesday morning. "I'm hearing I'm not doing well."

"I hear I'm really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to Heaven, this will be one of the reasons," he said, referring to ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict that he has played a part in negotiating.

He also said that ending the war would "save 7,000 people a week from being killed."

The interview took place a day after Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the White House as part of the ongoing discussions in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, which first began in 2022. The president also met with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday.

Trump told Fox and Friends that he hoped that Zelenskyy and Putin would meet one-on-one in the near future before he met both leaders in a trilateral meeting.

This isn't the first time that Trump has made faith-related commentsThe Christian Post reported.

Last year at the Republican National Convention, he credited God for saving his life following an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last summer.

"I had God on my side," he said.

"If I had not moved my head at that very last instant, the assassin's bullet would have perfectly hit its mark and I would not be here tonight," Trump said. "I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of God."

When he first ran for president in 2015, Trump made headlines after he told a crowd of conservative Christian activists in Iowa, "I'm not sure I have ever asked God's forgiveness."

He then clarified his remarks stating that "I go to communion and that's asking forgiveness, you know, it's a form of asking forgiveness."

"I try not [to] make mistakes where I have to ask forgiveness," he responded when asked if seeking forgiveness was a central tenet of his life. "Why do I have to repent or ask forgiveness if I am not making mistakes?"
