In God’s Divine Timing, Wedding Ring Is Returned to Man’s Widow after It’s Lost for 60+ Years

Barbara met Glenn Davis Gregory when they were teens on a double date. However, the two weren't with each other; Barbara's escort was a really close friend of hers. When she met Glenn that night, she asked her friend to get her a date with him. He did, and the rest is history.

Soon after They Got Married, They Planted a Tree Together

Soon after the two married in 1963, they took a honeymoon, settled on their Henry County, Kentucky farm, and planted a tree together-a symbol of their love. About two months after planting the tree, Glenn lost his wedding ring while setting a footer in the ground for their mobile home. Barbara told WLKY, "We immediately started looking and never found it."

The tree they planted all those years ago is a beauty, standing strong and tall. Barbara told the news outlet the tree "kept growing and growing," and their marriage did as well. After 60 years of marriage, Glenn died of cancer in December 2023. He was buried just steps from the base of their tree on the family farm. It was Searcy Monument Co., hired to place a headstone on Glenn's grave, that found the ring that had been misplaced 61 years earlier.

Jonathan Searcy was working on the grave and noticed something shining in the sun. It was Glenn's ring! Mr. Searcy said, "Odds are a million to one. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. God works in mysterious ways."

Glenn Misplaced Two Rings

After Glenn lost that first ring, he misplaced two during their marriage. Now that the first one has been found, only one is missing. Barbara joked about her decision to keep her husband's third ring, saying, "I didn't send it with him. I thought maybe he might lose it on his way to heaven. I don’t know."

Surely, good humor and time spent together were two of the many reasons that Glenn and Barbara Gregory enjoyed such an enduring love!

"May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth." Proverbs 5:18
