When was the last time you felt a sense of awe? You can experience that anytime you take a break from your busyness to pay full attention to the world around you. When you do, you’ll see evidence of God’s awe-inspiring design, which points to how majestic God really is. Don’t let your life shrink down to the level of your to-do list. Give yourself regular well-being breaks to connect with God and enjoy his majesty. Then, you’ll have more energy and a fresh dose of hope to take on all your responsibilities well. Here are seven signs of God’s majesty in the world around us all:
1. The huge and precise universe.
Think about how incredibly big the universe is. The sun you see on Earth is just one star among hundreds of billions in this galaxy, the Milky Way. Plus, there are likely trillions of other galaxies out there! The universe is also always getting bigger. The way it expands is just right – not too fast, which would stop stars from forming, and not too slow, which would make everything collapse from gravity. This perfect balance is truly incredible and points to an intelligent Creator: God. Even without telescopes, people long ago could see God’s majesty just by looking at the night sky. Today, thanks to advanced scientific tools, you can see mind-blowing details of the universe and understand that it’s far too complex to have happened by chance. Every new discovery about the universe can make you feel more amazed. Romans 1:20 declares that every part of nature shows us something about God: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” The universe shows you a perfect engineer and artist who designed it with power that goes beyond what we can understand.

The universe also follows very exact and reliable laws of physics. Laws that relate to gravity, electromagnetism, and nuclear forces control everything, from planets orbiting the sun to how tiny atoms work. It’s wonderful how finely tuned these laws are that make up our universe’s settings. If these settings were even a tiny bit different – for example, if gravity were just a little stronger or weaker – life as you know it couldn’t exist. The universe would either fall apart right away, or the elements needed for life couldn’t be made. The precise ways the universe operates show that the universe is perfectly set up for life.
The universe is like a super complex machine that has every single dial set to the exact right spot for it to work perfectly. This is evidence of a wise and thoughtful mind behind the natural laws of physics. As it says in Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” The precise, reliable, and purposeful laws that guide the universe are a strong sign of God’s awe-inspiring intelligence and power at work in this world. The more you learn about how the universe works, the more you can discover how it points you toward God.

The complex details of the life God has created point to a Creator who works with a purpose. For example, inside every human cell, thousands of tiny, complex machines work together in perfect harmony. Your DNA holds all the genetic information for every part of your body, from your eye color to how your organs work. The system that reads, copies, and fixes your DNA is incredibly smart, with each part doing a specific and vital job.
God has made wonderfully complex systems not just for humans, but also for plants and animals. Plants turn sunlight into energy very efficiently through photosynthesis. Animals share the same detailed system of blood clotting as us, where proteins activate in a specific order to stop too much bleeding after an injury. Such complexity, where taking away even one part would stop the whole system, shows a purposeful design at work, so creation didn’t happen randomly.
Psalm 139:13-14 beautifully describes God’s work as a Creator: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This highlights God’s incredible planning and careful work designing every living thing, right down to the tiny molecular level. The wonderful balance and connections of these microscopic systems constantly remind us of God’s endless intelligence working within all living things. That can inspire you to live into your God-given purpose as much as you can.

The human body as a whole is a masterpiece of engineering. Your eyes are able to see millions of colors and adjust to different light, and your ears can tell countless sounds apart in all situations. Your circulation system is a complex network of arteries, veins, and tiny capillaries powered by your heart, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to every cell in your body. Your nervous system, which includes your brain with billions of neurons and trillions of connections, is an incredibly fast communication network that processes your thoughts and emotions. Every organ and system in your body works together with teamwork and efficiency. This all points to a cause that’s much greater than just biological processes.
Psalm 8:3-4 asks God: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Even the fact that you have the ability to wonder about the universe and your place in it highlights the wonder of God’s work in your life.

This planet is full of an incredible variety of life. Each type of creature is perfectly designed for its home environment, such as desert camels that can store water and deep-sea anglerfish that have bioluminescent lures to use to hunt for food in the dark. Earth has an amazing range of ecosystems – forests, beaches, deserts, tundras, and more – that each support a diverse variety of life. Think about how different species work together, like bees pollinating flowers, or the complex food chains that support entire communities. This incredible variety and balance are all connected in wonderful ways that support Earth’s well-being.
God has also carefully designed the perfect balance of oxygen and nitrogen in Earth’s air and placed Earth on just the right type of axis at an ideal distance from the sun for life to thrive here. The Bible often talks about God’s joy in his creation. Genesis 1:31 reports: “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” You can see goodness every time you go outside. Every creature – including you – has been made and is loved by a caring Heavenly Father who can meet everyone’s needs, no matter what they are.

Beyond all the scientific details that point to God’s majesty, there’s a clear beauty in the natural world that reflects the beauty of God’s majesty. You can see that wondrous beauty everywhere you go in nature, from the bright colors of sunsets to the musical sounds of birds. Psalm 65:8 declares that God’s awe-inspiring wonders are available anywhere and anytime, when it says to God: “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.”
God has created everything with beautiful harmony. He designed creation with a mathematical exactness, which you can see by looking at natural patterns, like how trees often branch out by following the Fibonacci sequence to optimize their survival and growth. Why would a completely random process create such amazing beauty? The existence of beauty, which seems to have no purpose other than to inspire awe and joy, points to an intelligent Creator who loves art and order. Just enjoying the beauty of a flower can strengthen your faith by showing you evidence of a loving Creator who wants you to experience joy.

Finally, the universal moral law that’s part of your human conscience – your inner sense of right and wrong – is a sign of God’s majesty. As a human being, you instinctively know that some actions are simply good and others are simply evil. This natural feeling of right and wrong works like a quiet inner voice that inspires you to want justice and to feel good when you do something right and bad when you do something wrong.
Across different cultures and throughout history, people have always understood certain basic rights and wrongs. Ideas like fairness, justice, kindness, and respecting life are a natural part of all people, even though different societies might understand and apply these ideas differently. Where does this moral law come from? If humans are just products of random chance and survival of the fittest, then morality would just be something humans made up to get along in society. But your conscience tells you that’s not how it happened.
Romans 2:14-15 talks about how the moral law is written on people’s hearts: “Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing, sometimes even defending them.” God has written his moral law on the hearts of all people. That’s an important sign of God’s holiness and his desire for you to live a holy life in a relationship with him.
In conclusion, the world around you is like an open book, full of many wonderful signs of God’s majesty. By paying attention to these signs, you can discover a strong sense of awe that inspires you every day!
