Love often feels easiest when it gives something back—affirmation, comfort, or a sense of fulfillment. But Scripture points us to a deeper, truer kind of love: love that gives without counting the cost. Tonight’s episode reflects on how God defines love not by what we receive, but by what we are willing to give. From marriage and family to friendships and everyday relationships, we are invited to love sacrificially, following the example of Christ. Jesus showed us that real love lays itself down for the good of another. Though costly, this kind of love has the power to transform lives—including our own—because it flows from the heart of God.

Main Takeaways

  • Discover how God’s definition of love centers on giving rather than receiving.

  • Reflect on why relationships change when we enter them with a mindset of sacrifice instead of expectation.

  • Learn how Jesus’ willingness to lay down His life reveals the highest expression of love.

  • Be encouraged that, through God’s strength, we can love others sacrificially even when it feels difficult or costly.

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18

Your Evening Prayer

Father,
Thank You for showing us the true meaning of love through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus. When I am tempted to measure love by what I receive, reorient my heart toward giving as You have given. Help me rely on Your strength to love sacrificially—in my relationships, my family, and my friendships—especially when it feels costly. Remind me that I am loved beyond measure, redeemed by grace, and empowered to reflect that same love to others. Shape my heart to mirror the humility and obedience of Christ, and lead me to love as You love each day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
