At least twenty-six people were killed Tuesday (Dec. 16) when two suicide bombers attacked a Shiite rebel checkpoint and the home of a Shiite rebel leader in Yemen. Among the dead were 16 young girls, who were on a primary school bus passing through the checkpoint.
The attack occurred in Radda, al Bayda Province.
Christian Today reports that a truck went through the checkpoint with a load of potatoes concealing explosive devices underneath. In the attack on the home of rebel leader Abdullah Idris, a car was loaded with bombs was driven into the house.
Al-Qaeda has been blamed for the attacks by Shiite rebels, as well as Yemen’s Defense Ministry. The Guardian reports that the Defense Ministry called the suicide bombings a “cowardly terrorist attack on the home of a citizen and a school bus.”
