Afghanistan: Suicide Bomber Kills 50 at Volleyball Match

A suicide bomber killed 50 people and injured 60 at a Afghanistan volleyball match Sunday (Nov. 23). The incident occurred in Paktika’s Yahya Khail district, near Pakistan, Christian Today reports.

Paktika Deputy Governor Attaullah Fazli said in a statement, "The suicide attacker was on a motorcycle. A lot of people including some provincial officials and the police chief were there. About 50 people have been killed, and 60 injured, a lot of them seriously."

Authorities believe that the Taliban was behind the deadly attack, as the terrorist group has orchestrated similar operations in the past.

The bombing occurred on the same day that Afghanistan’s House of the People agreed to allow 12,000 NATO-affiliated soldiers to remain in the nation through 2015. The soldiers are in the country to “train, advise and assist Afghan security forces,” said a spokesman for Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
