Actor Jeremy Irons of Batman v Superman fame said in a recent interview that abortion is “a sin.”
LifeNews.com reports that in an interview with The Guardian, Irons stated, “I think the church is right to say [abortion’s] a sin. Abortion harms a woman – it’s a tremendous mental attack, and physical, sometimes. But we seem to get that muddled. In a way, thank God the Catholic church does say we won’t allow it, because otherwise nobody’s saying that it’s a sin.”
Outrage quickly followed Irons’ statement. A writer for popular feminist blog Jezebel called Irons a “stupid fartbag” in an article that intensely criticized him for his statement.
Also, Starwise, an offshoot of popular satirical site The Onion, mocked the intense outrage Irons’ comments received, titling an article “Public Outraged That Jeremy Irons Holds Same View on Abortion as Half of Congress.”
Although Irons also stated that he believes a “woman should be allowed to make the decision” on whether to get an abortion or not, the criticism still was very vocal.
LifeNews notes that Irons’ view on abortion is contrary to the views held by the majority of Hollywood stars.
