A northern Switzerland town is on high alert today after a chainsaw-wielding man injured several people.
CNN.com reports that the attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time in the usually peaceful town of Schaffhausen, which is located on Switzerland’s northern border with Germany.
Five people were reportedly injured in the attack--two seriously, according to FoxNews.com. The attacker entered office buildings in the town and targeted people working in a local branch of the health insurance company CSS, according to Swissinfo.
Police are currently searching for the suspect who has been described as six feet two inches tall, bald, with an unkempt appearance. They have said the attack “is not a terrorist act,” but have nevertheless warned residents to be on alert.
Police spokeswoman Cindy Beer added that they “can’t say exactly what happened at this point. We just know that a person wounded several people.”
CNN interviewed a journalist in Schaffhausen who said that the attack has left the town’s residents in shock. The town has a population of 36,000 and its history dates back to the medieval period.
"It's a very peaceful place ... a quiet place normally," he said. “It's kind of a big thing for this town of course and many people here are really shocked."
