Christian School Teacher Resigns after Loaded Gun is Found in Bathroom

A teacher at a Christian school in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania has resigned after students discovered a loaded gun she had left in the school bathroom.

According to ChristianToday.com, Beth Jean Dixon, a 63-year-old teacher at Cumberland Christian School, left a loaded pistol on the tank of a toilet in the school bathroom.

A student later reported the gun to his parent who is also a teacher at the school.

State Police confirmed that Dixon left the gun in the bathroom and apparently forgot about it.

Although Dixon resigned, she will still be charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the safety of children. Four children reportedly used the bathroom while the gun was there.

Rev. Mike Sanders, the president of Cumberland Christian School, stated, "We're thankful because it could have been a lot worse.” He added that weapons have been temporarily banned from school premises.

Although this incident did not end in any injuries, statistics show that 265 children under the age of 18 picked up a gun and accidentally shot themselves or someone else last year. Eighty-three of those instances proved fatal.
