Complementarian Leaders Endorse Conservative Christian Statement on LGBT Issues

Leading Christian complementarians recently released a new statement that reaffirms traditional marriage and clarifies their stance on LGBT issues.

The statement was issued by the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) which was formed 30 years ago by theologian Wayne Grudem. Members of the Council had previously released the Danvers Statement which affirmed a complementarian view of women and men.

Now, Christianity Today reports that CBMW has turned its focus to the issue of same-sex marriage and LGBT acceptance.

In their Nashville Statement, the Christian leaders declared, “We are persuaded that faithfulness in our generation means declaring once again the true story of the world and of our place in it—particularly as male and female.”

The document was endorsed by about 150 conservative Christian leaders at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission national conference which took place last week in Nashville.

Denny Burk, CBMW president and a Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor, commented on the statement: “The spirit of our age does not delight in God’s good design of male and female. Consequently, confusion reigns over some of the most basic questions of our humanity. The aim of the Nashville Statement is to shine a light into the darkness—to declare the goodness of God’s design in our sexuality and in creating us as male and female.”
