Hallmark Channel Mutes 'God' in Movie

The Hallmark Channel has viewers angry for its decision to mute the word “God” in the 1994 Nicolas Cage flick “It Could Happen to You.”

Christians watching the movie were outraged that the network would allegedly gave in to “politcal correctness.” Some said that they would stop supporting the network altogether.

Viewers took to social media to express their disappointment. One person wrote on the Hallmark Channel Facebook page, “I think it is time to block your channel. You make a lot of money off the rising of God’s only son who died and rose again...yet you bleep his Name. I am beyond disgusted.”

But the network says the bleeping out was only to remove instances of the Lord’s name “taken in vain.”

A statement from Hallmark said, “In the recent airing of ‘It Could Happen To You,’ the work God was omitted as staying on the side of caution not to offend, as our Standard & Practices department categorised it as God was being used in vain.”

The Hallmark Channel thanked the viewers for expressing their concerns.
