ISIS Carries out Four Attacks in Single Day, Killing at Least 29

The Islamic State carried out four separate attacks in Iraq on Monday, according to SRNNews.com

The total death toll for all four attacks was at least 29 people, with dozens others wounded.

The worst attack took place in the southern province of Dhi Qar (also known as Nasiriyah). A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a restaurant which is frequented by Shiite paramilitary fighters. This attack killed at least 14 people and wounded 27 others.

Another attack was carried out by a suicide car bomber who detonated his vehicle in a commercial area of the city of Basra. This attack killed at least five people and wounded 10 others. In addition to loss of life, this attack damaged up to 30 vehicles.

Yet another attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who rammed his car into a security checkpoint in Sadr al-Qanat, Baghdad’s northeastern suburb. This attack killed six people and wounded 10 others. 

Lastly, a car bomber blew up a headquarters of paramilitary troops in the town of Mishahda, killing four people and wounding 10 others. 

All four attacks targeted Iraqi military forces which are trying to stop the Islamic State from taking over more territory in Iraq.

The Islamic State militants already have control of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city. According to a report from the United Nations, at least 1,119 Iraqis were killed in the conflict with the Islamic State in the month of March alone. That is up from 670 who were killed in February.
