While fighting Iraqi forces in the town of Hit, 85 west of Baghdad, ISIS has resorted to using civilians as human shields.
CBN News reports that tens of thousands of civilians are trapped in the fighting.
Iraqi troops attempted to take back the city from the militants, but had to halt their progress when they discovered that ISIS was using civilians as human shields to stop the advance of the Iraqi forces and to interfere with airstrikes.
CBN News notes that terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah also use civilians as human shields in fighting in the Gaza Strip and in southern Lebanon.
Iraqi forces are currently looking for a way to evacuate the civilians trapped in the midst of the fighting.
