Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush spoke out about the rights of Christian businesses in a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network. The Republican candidate said that he believes Christian-owned businesses should be allowed to deny service to gay weddings if it violates their religious beliefs.
When interviewer Brody File asked Bush is businesses should be permitted to refuse services to gay weddings, the presidential hopeful answered, “Yes, absolutely, if it’s based on a religious belief.”
He continued, “A big country, a tolerant country, ought to be able to figure out the difference between discriminating someone because of their sexual orientation and not forcing someone to participate in a wedding that they find goes against their moral beliefs. This should not be that complicated. Gosh, it is right now.”
The Huffington Post reports Bush is a staunch opponent of legal same-sex marriage and reiterated his position that "we need to be stalwart supporters of traditional marriage,” in the interview.
In a previous interview, Bush said that he would attend a same-sex wedding if it was a close friend or family member, but would not support the lifestyle.
