More Than 150 Congressmembers Pledge to Challenge Electoral College Votes

Some 140 House Republicans and a dozen senators say they will challenge the presidential election results if Congress certifies the results.

According to CBN News, Sen. Ted Cruz is leading the effort to dispute the results, saying they are not “lawfully certified” until Congress approves an emergency 10-day audit of the results.

"We ought to have a fair inquiry, a fair audit into these results, and we ought to resolve these claims, not just dismiss them out of hand,” Cruz said on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures show.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, Vice President Mike Pence has also said he would “welcome” an effort “to raise objections” about the election results.

President Donald Trump has not conceded the election, but president-elect Joe Biden is scheduled to be inaugurated as president on Jan. 20.

Cruz and the other senators wrote in a statement that they believe there was voter fraud in the election. They are asking for other lawmakers to object to the certification of Biden as president unless Congress approves a 10-day emergency audit of election results.

Not all Republican lawmakers are supporting Cruz’s effort. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham tweeted this week that the proposal is a “political dodge.”

Proposing a commission at this late date – which has zero chance of becoming reality...appears to be more of a political dodge than an effective remedy."

Rep. Liz Cheney said the effort could “set an exceptionally dangerous precedent.”

Congress is expected to officially certify the election results on Jan. 6.

The effort to challenge the election results comes as a leaked phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has become public.

During the call, Trump claims he won the state of Georgia, but he needs 11,780 votes to prove his victory. Raffensperger, however, told Trump there were no errors in the results.

“In Georgia, we did get it right,” Raffensperger told the Associated Press on Monday. “I’m not happy with the result, as a Republican, but it is the right result based on the numbers that we saw cast.”
