Planned Parenthood Wins ‘American Nobel’ Award

Planned Parenthood has received the Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, which is an award often referred to as the “American Nobel.”

According to the National Review, the abortion provider will receive the award for its commitment to provide “essential health services and reproductive care to millions of women for more than a century.”

The award is a prestigious honor and is often referred to as the “American Nobel” since many of its previous recipients went on to win a Nobel Prize. It is bestowed by the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation.

Past recipients of the award include Bill and Melinda Gates, Michael Bloomberg, and President Lyndon B. Johnson.

National Review contributor Alexandra Desanctis reports that this award makes the case that Planned Parenthood is part of the establishment, despite 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s pushback against that accusation from fellow Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Desanctis goes on to note that during the 2012 and 2016 election cycles, Planned Parenthood spent over $38 million in support of Democratic candidates.

Desanctis further points out that “One would think, for example, that a group being honored for contributions to medicine wouldn’t simultaneously be subject to congressional investigations into allegations of illegal fetal-tissue trafficking.”
