President Biden Calls for NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's Resignation following Harassment Report Findings
President Joe Biden is calling on Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign from his post after an investigation found that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women.
“He should resign,” Biden said this week.
“I understand the state legislature may decide to impeach, I do not know that for a fact,” he added.
Cuomo’s press office has not responded to requests for comment regarding Biden’s statement.
According to CBNC, a report released Tuesday by state attorney general Letitia James found that Cuomo “sexually harassed multiple women, and in doing so violated federal and state law,” she said in a press conference.
She said Cuomo’s office was a “toxic workplace.”
“I am grateful to all the women who came forward to tell their stories in painstaking detail, enabling investigators to get to the truth,” she added.
Cuomo has denied some of these allegations.
“I want you to know directly from me that I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances,” he said Tuesday after the report was released.
The 165-report comes after a months-long investigation into Cuomo’s behavior. The probe included interviews with some 179 witnesses and thousands of documents.
The report said Cuomo “sexually harassed a number of current and former New York State employees by, among other things, engaging in unwelcome and non-consensual touching, as well as making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature that created a hostile work environment for women.”
Cuomo is accused of harassing women on his staff, other female state employees and even women in the public.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the White House wanted women “who have lived through this type of experience … deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.”
The report followed claims that surfaced in December from multiple women who said Cuomo sexually harassed them.
