Tim Tebow Dispels Rumor That He Will Speak at Republican Convention

Former football star and Christian celebrity Tim Tebow has dispelled a rumor that he was scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention.

The Convention begin this Monday, July 18 and goes through Thursday, July 21. Although a number of news sites even listed Tebow on the roster of speakers, Tebow recently posted a video to Instagram which conclusively dispelled what he said is just a rumor.

“It’s amazing how fast rumors fly,” Tebow says in the video, adding that he recently got back from the Philippines where his foundation started a hospital for children, and woke up to hear that he was speaking at the Convention.

Tebow has acknowledged that he may one day go into politics if he feels like that is what he is being called to do, but for now he said he believes he is called to focus on the work his foundation is doing in helping children.

It is unclear where the rumor originated, but Sam Laird at Mashable.com speculates that since Trump made a habit of courting evangelicals in order to win the evangelical vote, the Tebow rumor may have been a similar attempt to gain the trust of evangelicals.

According to the rumors, Tebow was scheduled to speak on the last day of the Convention, the same day as Trump himself.
