Christian athlete Tim Tebow took to Twitter to rally volunteers and support for shelters as Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida.
Tebow, whose home state is Florida, especially stressed the need for volunteers at special needs shelters.
Although Tebow has made a career out of sports--first football and now baseball--he has often stressed that he hopes to be known more for loving others than for any personal accomplishments.
He is also head of the Tim Tebow Foundation, which has opened the Tim Tebow CURE Hospital in the Philippines and specializes in caring for children with special needs. Tebow and his Foundation also coordinate the annual Night to Shine, which the Foundation’s website describes as “An unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs.”
Ministering to those with special needs is obviously close to Tebow’s heart.
On Sunday, he tweeted:
FL, let's help bring Faith, Hope & Love to those taking refuge in our Florida Special-Needs-Shelters! #HelpMakeADifference https://t.co/Brz8cFdaVo

He also tweeted an encouraging Bible verse for all those weathering the storm:
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
