In his first State of the Union address, President Donald Trump said that America “is strong because our people are strong.”

Trump spoke for about 80 minutes, making his speech the third-longest State of the Union in history. The longest address was President Bill Clinton’s final State of the Union in 2000.

Trump recalled his first of accomplishments, saying that he kept his promise to Americans.

"Just as I promised the American people from this podium 11 months ago, we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history,” he said.

On infrastructure, he asked Congress for a bill that would generate at least $1.5 trillion in investments in infrastructure “that our country desperately needs.”

Trump also said that he was committed to protecting religious liberty in the country.

"In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of the American life.  The motto is 'in God we trust,'” he said.

Tennessee Congresswoman Diane Black called the address “inspiring.”

“He talked about making America great again as he did in the campaign,” she said.

In response to Trump’s speech, Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, from West Virginia, said the address was a bipartisan message.

"We're going to have to join and he's put the olive branch out and let's grab it and work together," he said.
